Van Müzesi (Van Museum)

Van Müzesi (Van Museum) Review

The new city's main attraction is the small but well-arranged archaeological and ethnographical collections, which display many Urartian artifacts, particularly metalwork: rich gold jewelry; belts and plates engraved with lions, bulls, and sphinxes; and a carved relief of the god Teshup, for whom their capital was named. An inner courtyard has some intriguing humanoid stelae found in Hakkâri, in the mountains to the south. The small garden has a varied collection ranging from Urartian sculptures to Turkish tombstones.
