Fodor's Review

This spare but welcoming hotel inhabits a handsome, historic building and is ideally placed on the Limmatquai, minutes from the Hauptbahnhof and steps from the Limmatquai and Central tram stops. All rooms have tile bathrooms and fluffy down comforters. There's an old-fashioned wood-paneled Weinstube (wine bar) and a bright vegetarian restaurant that doubles as the breakfast room.

Bare bones, cramped quarters, great location

Zurich hotels are expensive. The Limmathof is an exception, but our experience was that you pay for it through tiny rooms, a tinier bathroom, depressing stairwells and a less than friendly staff. If location, a clean room and a good price are your needs, Limmathof is fine. If a bit of character, friendly conversation and more spacious surroundings are your thing, you might look elsewhere.

GREAT LOCATION AND CLEAN

This is a great hotel with a friendly staff. Breakfast is very limited but the service was great. You cannot ask for a better location. This hotel is walking distance to the train station if you are arriving by train. We would definitely stay here again.

best location for the money

While I can't actually speak to the rooms at this hotel, as a part-time Zurich resident I can tell you this is perhaps the best location for its money in Zurich. In reference to other posted comments, it might be helpful for readers to consider that 1) rooms in Europe are almost always smaller than we Americans are used to, except in the expensive chain hotels and outside cities, and 2) there is always a trade-off between quiet and location. But if

you want to be able to walk to anywhere in the city or catch the train for a quick day trip out of town, this is a great place. The vegetarian restaurant is also excellent, and in the summer the small tables on its balcony offer a great view of Zurich's "going-ons." The fixed price lunch is something that even the locals love, and if you miss home there is a Starbucks downstairs (though the "Konditorei" next door is better).

Noisiest Room in Europe

The staff are friendly, the breakfast is good, as is the vegetarian restaurant for dinner. The no-frills rooms are clean and adequate. But if you chose the Limmathoff, make sure you ask for a quiet room! Ours, (number 30, I believe) overlooked a spot where a four-lane busy street crossed a funicular track. AND directly below our window was a parking lot designed for motorcycles, which roared in and out all day and night. Even with the windows closed,

we literally could not hear each other speak. Sleeping was impossible, and we checked out two days early just to get some rest. In 30 years travelling, this was the noisiest room I've ever experienced.

Tiny rooms

if you like small rooms, small beds and little bathroom space, this is your place.
