Getting Around

Excellent rail and bus service links towns, depositing commuters and travelers at clean, well-lit stations and shopping hubs in the heart of everything.

If you must drive, rent the smallest car your physique and luggage will allow. Negotiating narrow lanes in wine villages and parking in cities is a headache.

To access wineries in La Côte and Chablais and to traverse the Corniche road of the Lavaux a car is essential.

Intercity trains stopping in Nyon, Morges, Lausanne, Vevey, and Montreux dovetail their schedules for transfers to local S-trains and buses. The best of the region—whether city or countryside—can easily be experienced on foot, supplemented by an occasional taxi or public transit when the grade becomes too steep or the traveler too weary.
