Hiking

Beautiful hikes of all levels abound throughout the Aletsch region. You can start hikes directly from the villages of Riederalp, Bettmeralp, and Fiescheralp, or take a cable car up to begin amazingly scenic hikes along the glacier's edge. If you're planning a lot of hiking in the area, consider purchasing a Hiking Pass Aletsch, which gives you access to all the cable cars (49 SF for one day, 127 SF for six days).

Aletsch Panorama Trail. From Brig catch a train to the Betten Talstation cable car, which whisks you up to Bettmeralp for amazing views. A gondola takes you to about 8,700 feet up the Bettmerhorn. From there, expect to climb about 1,300 vertical feet and drop more than 2,700 on this 11-km (7-mile) route, arriving at a cable car in Fiescheralp to take you back to train service in Fiesch. The trail, accessible between June and September, goes along the massive Aletsch Glacier, through a valley dotted with pristine Alpine lakes. Along the way, stop at the Gletscherstube, a rustic hut set near the Märjelensee, at 8,640 feet, where you can eat lunch or get a bed for the night to prolong the adventure. Bettmeralp, Valais.
