4 Best Performing Arts in Luzern and Central Switzerland, Switzerland

In July, the eclectic (and badly named) Blue Balls Festival brings nine days of indoor and outdoor concerts, plus a lakeside market and a host of food and drink vendors.

The cultural hub of central Switzerland, the city hosts the annual Lucerne Festival from mid-August to mid-September in the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum. Outstanding classical performers come from all over the world; past guests have included tenor Jonas Kaufmann and superstar pianist Lang Lang. The Lucerne Festival also has an Easter version as well as a series of piano concerts in November.

Performing at the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum, this symphony orchestra has a season that runs from October through June.

Across from the Kapellbrücke, the Luzerner Theater hosts plays in German and operas in their original languages.
