Punt Muragl
Punt Muragl Review
At Punt Muragl, off the train line and highway between St. Moritz and Pontresina, you'll find the funicular for Muottas Muragl at 8,055 feet. Up here, summer or winter, walkers can take the Philosophers' Path, which is dotted with quotations from famous minds as well as more modern observations about life. Following the three circular paths takes about 1½ hours. An alternate way back down to the valley is the 4-km (2½-mi) sled run. Sleds can be rented at the valley station for 15 SF. This, together with a large playground, makes Muottas a good excursion for children. During the day, the funicular fare is 33 SF round-trip, or 15 SF for an evening round-trip. To keep body and soul together, visit the rustic chic Berghotel Muottas Muragl for a meal with a truly spectacular view. The menu focuses on local specialties such as dried meat, Capuns, and the gnocchilike Pizokel, along with a nice selection of meat and fish dishes. From Muottas Muragl, you can embark on a 3½-hour long traverse to Alp Languard, where you can take a chairlift down to Pontresina. The Segantini Hut (approximately halfway along) offers possibly the most spectacular (and photographed) views of the Upper Engadine and its series of five terraced, serenely azure lakes. Except moderate difficulty, since parts are rocky and steep; hiking boots are a must.
