Fodor's Expert Review Schlosshotel Chastè
Tarasp, Graubünden, 7553, Switzerland Fodor's Choice
Although many Swiss hoteliers can claim a second generation of family ownership, this hidden treasure boasts 500 years under the Pazeller family's care, who have preserved the bulging, sgraffitied stucco exterior and modernized much of what's behind the magnificently carved Arvenholz wood door. Now part of the Relais & Châteaux group, it started as a farm, then supplied provisions to builders of Tarasp Castle, which looms above. Each room varies a bit—a canopy bed here, an antique trunk there—and the attention to detail is stunning. The highly regarded on-site restaurant offers a wide range of sophisticated local and international dishes. The Grecian-inspired wellness area—with saunas and massage areas—provides ultimate relaxation.
