The Gare Routière de Genève, Geneva's central bus station, lies hidden behind the English Church off rue du Mont-Blanc and handles buses arriving from or departing for points across Europe. Local buses and trams operate every few minutes on all city routes from 5 AM to midnight, when, on Friday and Saturday, the Noctambus night-bus service kicks in. Buy a 3 SF ticket from the UNIRESO vending machine at the stop before you board (instructions are given in English) and use the system, transferring at will between buses, trams, airport-bound trains, and the Mouettes Genevoises harbor shuttles, for one hour. Day passes, known as cartes journalières, are available from the vending machines or the Transports Publics Genevois (TPG) booths at the train station and rond-point de Rive, and come in two forms. Unlimited city-center travel between 9 AM and midnight costs 7 SF; 10 SF will buy you a 24-hour period that begins when the ticket is purchased and allows two people to travel for the price of one on weekends. The Geneva Transport Card costs 20 SF for 48 hours or 30 SF for 72 hours, covers two people on weekends, grants discounts at museums and tourist attractions, and must be stamped by a hotel reception or at a TPG booth. Holders of the Swiss Pass travel free.
