The mood is casual-chic and friendly, with rows of wine bottles on floor-to-ceiling shelving, large framed mirrors and opera posters on the walls, and classical music in the background. The Syrian chef rolls out subtle updates of traditional French bistro fare imbued with his own flair: fresh figs with bacon, honey, and cumin, or spicy lamb with chickpea purée. He overhauls the menu once a month, but there would be a riot if he stopped including warm tarte Tatin with Gruyère cream.
