Renowned French interior designer Jacques Garcia, working in a whimsical, elegant, and solidly contemporary register, drew inspiration from the name of this ultra-private, bungalow-style hotel facing the alps north of Geneva and uses multiple stylistic touches to conjure Africa at every subtle turn. Giraffe, butterfly, and rabbit topiary dot the ten-acre park; exterior walls are painted ochre; a baby elephant (sculpture) guards leopard print carpets and colorful parrot cut-outs in the lobby; and the restaurant Le Loti serves Franco-Mediterranean cuisine under a bamboo tent. Most rooms have a balcony, terrace, or private patio; bathrooms have two sinks, frosted-glass doors, and mosaic marble floors. Pillow menus let you customize your linens and there's a treefort for children; Moorish arches line the huge, full-service spa and the heated indoor pool, lit by glowing jellyfish lamps, has an underwater soundtrack. Notable exceptions to the African theme are the Tsé Fung restaurant, which serves authentic Chinese cuisine, and the exclusive Venetian motoscaffo that ferries guests to and from Geneva free of charge between March and October.
