The city has based its huge archaeology, fine art, and applied art collections in this custom-built museum since 1910. They include, notably, Switzerland's largest concentration of Egyptian art, Escalade-era weapons, Alpine landscapes from both ends of the 19th century, and substantial contemporary art. The 15th-century Miracle of the Fishes, in which Christ paces the waters of Lac Léman, keeps things focused locally; temporary exhibits range much farther afield.
