Skiing

Amden. Despite its small size, Amden is a major winter sports center, offering modest skiing in a ruggedly beautiful setting. Easy and medium slopes with unspectacular drops and quick, short-lift runs provide good weekend getaways for crowds of local Swiss families. The highest trails start at 5,576 feet; there are two chairlifts, three T-bars, one children's lift, 25 km (16 miles) of downhill runs, and 8 km (5 miles) of cross-country trails. You can also take advantage of the ski school, a natural ice rink, and walking paths. One-day lift tickets cost 35 SF; six-day passes cost 165 SF. 055/6111115.
