Boat and Ferry Travel
There's regular year-round service on the Bodensee through Schweizer Bodensee Schiffahrtsgesellschaft, though fewer boats run in winter. The Schweizerisches Schiffahrtgesellschaft Untersee und Rhein ship company offers a boat ride on the Rhine with romantic views of storybook castles, citadels, and monasteries. Boats run regularly up- and downstream, docking at Schaffhausen, Stein-am-Rhein, Gottlieben, Konstanz, and Kreuzlingen. Prices vary according to the distance traveled. A one-way trip from Schaffhausen to Kreuzlingen takes about 4½ hours. On both boat lines, you'll travel free if you have a Swiss Pass.
