One of Appenzell's most popular restaurants serves hearty regional meats and cheese specialties, such as Käseschnitte (cheese toast) and Käsespätzli (Spätzli with cheese), to locals and tourists who crowd elbow to elbow along shared tables and talk over the clatter from the bar. The rustic-wood decor, ladderback chairs, and the display of sports trophies add to the local atmosphere. If you can still move after all that cheese, play skittles at the in-house lanes after dinner.
