Wengen's first lodging, this welcoming inn has been run by the same family for more than a century. The decor is homey, with knotty pine, painted wood, and skirted lamp shades. Rooms with south-facing balconies are slightly more expensive and well worth it. It's downhill and away from the center, with an emphasis on good half-board meals. The restaurant is for guests only.

Our stay at the Alpenrose was one of the highlights of our 20-day trip to Switzerland. The staff was friendly, but in particular, the family von Allmen make you feel like you are their most important, and cherished, visitors. Rooms were absolutely lovely. Wonderful food and ambience. We would go back anytime.
