Hotel Alpenrose Review

Wengen's first lodging, this welcoming inn—downhill and away from the center—has been run by the same family for more than a century. The decor is homey, with knotty pine, painted wood, rugs, and skirted lamp shades throughout. Guest rooms with south-facing balconies are slightly more expensive and well worth it—the sweeping views of the valley are sublime. The bar/salon is spacious and comfy, with an open fire, candles, fresh flowers, and overhead beams ensuring the inn's warmth envelops guests at every turn. There is an emphasis on good half-board meals, the restaurant being for hotel guests only.

Our stay at the Alpenrose was one of the highlights of our 20-day trip to Switzerland. The staff was friendly, but in particular, the family von Allmen make you feel like you are their most important, and cherished, visitors. Rooms were absolutely lovely. Wonderful food and ambience. We would go back anytime.
