It's all about atmosphere in this genteel Victorian hotel. With its frou-frou trim, Art Nouveau colors, and nestled mountainside setting, this is the most gracious hotel in Wengen. Thanks to the Meyer family, a genuinely familial mood is palpable, which you sense immediately upon entering the plush and handsome lobby, glowing with sconce lighting and a massive baronial fireplace. Most large guest rooms have balconies and are done in mauve and rose with a very elegant touch; rooms under the eaves have loft beds. Paintings and rustic antiques (such as a huge wooden sled) are scattered throughout. The emphasis is on half board, and it's a treat; the conservatory-like dining room, which serves exceptionally creative seasonal fare, shares the chef with the hotel's popular restaurant, Chez Meyer's ($$-$$$$), adorned with vintage family photos and serving a creative seasonal menu—try the chestnut soup, the zucchini flowers filled with mushrooms, or lobster ravioli with ginger sauce.

Our room had broken furniture which was never fixed and we were not able to change rooms. Our dinner table had wobbly leg and when we asked to be moved the smarmy owner placed a match book under the leg. We had booked a week but decided to change hotels after one night. The owner charged our credit card for nights we didn't use. Overaall, dilapidated facility with owners unskilled in the hotel business.
