Grandhotel Giessbach Review

Overlooking the famed Giessbach Falls, across the lake from Brienz, this turreted, 19th-century Belle Epoque haven offers lovely scenic views from almost any vantage point. The lobby has high, chandeliered ceilings and period furnishings in golds, yellows, and soft pinks—stucco angels, full-length oil portraits of Swiss beauties, and other Proustian touches all cast their spell and will have you feeling like an off-duty H.R.H. in no time. Guest rooms are comfortable and spacious. The Park restaurant ($$-$$$) has a glorious "orangerie" overlooking the falls, while Le Tapis Rouge is a serious gourmand affair. Note that the official address for this hotel is Brienz.
