Favored by black-clad music- and film-industry types, the Lydmar appeals to the more aesthetically conscious traveler. Only a 10-minute walk from the downtown hub of Sergels Torg and right on the doorstep of Stureplan, the epicenter of Stockholm's nightlife, the Lydmar is more than just a hotel—it's also one of the trendiest bars in town. Even if you don't stay here, be sure to take a ride in the elevator, in which you can choose from eight kinds of elevator music, all of (believe it or not) quality. The lobby lounge is alive on weekends with jazz and DJs spinning the latest club music. Rooms here are ultramodern with such features as sunken beds, wall-mounted light panels, polished concrete walls, plasma-screen TVs, Italian sofas, asymmetric coffee tables and super-soft bed quilts. The full-size bottles of bathroom products are a nice touch.
