Victory Review

Slightly larger than its brother and sister hotels, the Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, this extremely atmospheric Gamla Stan building dates from 1640. History defines the Victory: in the cellar you can see part of a medieval fortress wall, and, in the 1930s construction workers stumbled across Sweden's biggest silver treasure ever found, just beneath the hotel. The theme is nautical, with artifacts from the HMS Victory, as well as Swedish antiques. Each room is named after a 19th-century sea captain. The restaurant, Djuret (the animal), is a temple to organic and wild local meat, and a hot ticket with locals.
