On the waterfront in Gamla Stan, this hotel opened in 1819. The rooms looking out over the water are fantastic, and for a small supplement you can get a room with a private sauna and Jacuzzi. A mix of nautical-inspired antiques and simple, modern furniture fill the rooms, many of which have original exposed brick and wood ceiling beams. There is a fine Italian restaurant with a grill, tea and coffee service in the library, and what is reputed to be the best piano bar in town. A small swimming pool, dominated by businessmen cooling off after the sauna, is built under the medieval arches of the foundations.
