One of the more unusual establishments in Stockholm, Mälardrottningen was once Barbara Hutton's yacht. Since 1982 it has been a hotel, with a crew as service conscious as any in Stockholm. Tied up on the freshwater side of Gamla Stan, it is minutes from everything. Not surprisingly, the theme here is nautical, with endless mahogany and polished brass, groups of maritime pictures on the walls, and rooms that are a riot of navy-blue, maroon, and white. Some of the below-deck cabins are a bit stuffy, but in summer you can take your meals out on deck. The ship's chief assets are novelty and absence of traffic noise.
