Since 1645, restaurant Stallmästaregården has been wowing travelers with its culinary achievement. The adjoining hotel, a relative newcomer, opened in 2000, and it has done plenty to catch up with its older sibling's reputation. Romance is the loose theme at this hotel, with light-filled rooms stuffed with 18th-century Swedish antiques and Chinese artifacts. Despite the goods, rooms seem to retain an air of simplicity that befits a Scandinavian-designed hotel. Each room is different in design, but all share the pleasing trait of not really feeling like hotel rooms. Add to this the delightful parkland setting and it's not hard to imagine yourself as a welcome guest of 18th-century Swedish nobility. Seekers of 21st-century bustle are happy here, as well, with downtown Stockholm a mere 10 minutes away by car.
