The Pyrenees: Places to Explore

Aragüés del Puerto

A tidy mountain village with stone houses and lovely little corners, doorways, and porticoes, Aragüés del Puerto is the hub and base camp for some of Upper Aragón's wildest reaches. Uspoiled by ski resorts and mass tourism, this little-known wilderness valley offers peace and quiet, wildlife up to and including the reintroduced Pyrenean brown bear, and myriad hiking opportunities. Among its many unique features is the distinctive folk dance of theAragüés Valley, called the palotiau, a variation of the Aragonese jota performed only in this village.
