Before visiting the monastery, stop across the road at the Centro de Educación Ambiental Puente del Perdón, which provides information on the area, including some lodging and eating options in Rascafría and nearby villages, and suggestions for interesting treks—one of the most beautiful is a route that takes you to La Cascada del Purgatorio (Purgatory Falls). Next to the center is El Arboreto Giner de los Ríos, an arboretum worth visiting.
