Fodor's Review

This is one of the best bargains in the city. A diverse crowd is drawn to this loftlike space for the grilled vegetables, oven-cooked bacalao (salt cod) with spinach, and the caramelized duck with plums and couscous. The hardwood floor is offset by warm colors, and one end of the dining room has a huge bookcase lined with wine bottles. Arrive by 1 for lunch and 8:30 for dinner or be prepared to wait.

I have eaten here (almost) three times; NOT recommended.

I currently live in Madrid and have eaten at this restaurant two times before. I can understand why people, especially tourists who happen to dine at this restaurant once, may like it. I did too - that is why I went back. It is cheap, well located, and has a modern, smoke-free atmosphere. However, after my experience tonight, I have no problem sharing that I will NEVER go back, nor recommend it to ANYONE. I was supposed to dine with three other people,

and because of circumstances, the fourth could not make it - we thought she was coming and had no way of knowing that she would not show. We were already seated and eating at our table when a waiter told us we had to move to another table - a table for two people with a third chair pulled up. We asked our original waiter if we really had to move, and she said no, so we stayed. The other waiter returned a few minutes later and took the food OUT FROM UNDER US and SLAMMED IT DOWN on the other table, barking at us to move. We refused, as we were already eating comfortably, and the restaurant was HARDLY FULL. We then refused to continue our meal if we were going to be treated in such an infantile manner by the staff. We tried to ask for an "hoja de reclamación," a way of reporting poor service in Spain, as we were being treated so poorly (even though all of us are fluent in Spanish and could communicate perfectly well - so it was not a language barrier issue), and were refused that as well. We left, extremely disturbed. I have NEVER in Spain, nor in my life, had such a horrible dining experience, and while this place is recommended by many tour books, La Finca de Susana does not deserve such high marks.

Classy yet Inexpensive

A sit-down restaurant with white tablecloths and a lots of attentive staff -- a little too much as both nights we ate there, we were asked if we were ready to order within 2 minutes of sitting down. However, the food was wonderful - a wide choice- at very inexpensive prices, and the Tamboan dessert was delectable. It was a nice change from the hectic tapas bars, and we ate there twice. By the way, unlike other Spanish restaurants, the wait staff brought

the check as soon as we were done without our asking for it.
