Getting Around

Once in Madrid you'll find that all the historic neighborhoods are in close proximity and can best be enjoyed when explored on foot. However, the metro, which runs frequently (open 6 AM-1:30 AM), is a fast and—at EUR 1 no matter how far you travel—cheap alternative. Taxis are another good deal and are easily hailed on the street—except when it rains or on weekend nights, when they're exceedingly hard to come by.
