Parador de Gijón Review

In this parador, one of the simplest and friendliest in Spain, the rooms in the new wing have wood floors and pine shutters; they're also small, but most have wonderful views over the lake or the park. In the restaurant ($-$$$), try the caldereta de marisco (an aromatic seafood stew made with crab, lobster, and shrimp), chopa a la sidra (sea chub cooked in cider), or tigres (spicy stuffed mussels). For dessert, try fresh figs (in season) with pungent Cabrales cheese. The parador is a bit of a hike from the old town, given that it's in an old water mill in a park not far from the San Lorenzo Beach.
