Fodor's Review

Open since 1984, this is probably Mérida's best-known and most popular restaurant. It's in a distinctive house with yellow awnings, near the municipal market, and has a casual pub serving tapas downstairs and a dining room upstairs. The regionally inspired food includes perdiz en escabeche (marinated partridge), lamb dishes, and frogs' legs. Desserts might include the traditional, flan-like tocino del cielo ("bacon from heaven") made with honey and egg yolks, or a superb and creamy (nearly soupy) sheeps' milk cheese from La Serena, usually served with a spoon, called Torta de la Serena.
