Perfectly placed for exploring the Jewish Quarter, this boutique hotel occupies a 9th-century house, with remnants of a 3rd-century Roman wall and a Roman aqueduct on the ground floor and in one of the apartments. The suite has Gothic vaulting overhead and views of the cathedral. One dining room even contains a wall made in the pre-Roman opus spicatum herringbone pattern. Wooden furniture fills the simply but pleasantly furnished rooms. Casilda Cruz rents the good-value apartments in the Old Quarter for as many days as you'd like, from one day to one month.
Carrer Bellmirall 4A, Girona, Catalonia, 17004, Spain

I joined Fodors just so I could share with others our wonderful experience at the Hotel Historic. We planned to meet up with Friends, but had our first night in Catalonia to ourselves and this hotel hit just the perfect note. On the top of the old section (Calle) in Girona, built partly into the old walls of the fort or cathedral, the beautiful old stone hotel blends perfectly with its surroundings. I was a little worried because I had heard that
the Cathedral bells ring quite prominently throughout the night, but we found them to be absolutely gorgeous and romantic. Xavier the owner is wonderful. They're adding another property in the same neighborhood that isn't quite in tip-top shape yet, but if the hotel is booked when you try, ask him if he has space elsewhere and he'll probably be able to accommodate you. As a note, the Bellmirall, across the cobbled stone street from Historic also seemed to be very nice.
