By Bus in Castile

Bus connections between Madrid and Castile are excellent. There are several stations and stops in Madrid; buses to Toledo (1 hour) leave every half hour from the Estación del Sur, and buses to Segovia (1½ hours) leave every hour from La Sepulvedana's headquarters, which are near Príncipe Pío. Larrea sends buses to Ávila from the Méndez Alvaro Metro stop. Alsa and Movelia have service to León (4½ hours), and Alsa also travels to Valladolid (2¼ hours). Auto Res serves Cuenca (2¾ hours) and Salamanca (3 hours). Buses to Soria (3 hours), El Burgo de Osma (2½ hours), and Burgos (3½ hours) are run by Continental Auto.

From Burgos, buses head north to the Basque Country; from León, you can press on to Asturias. Services between towns are not as frequent as those to and from Madrid, so you may find it quicker to return to Madrid and make your way from there. Reservations are rarely necessary.
