When to Go

When to Go

July and August can be brutally hot; November through February can get bitterly cold, especially in the Sierra de Guadarrama. May and October, when the weather is sunny but relatively cool, are the two best months to visit central Spain.

Every town has its own festival, be it religious or a leftover pagan ceremony that doesn't have clear origins. Semana Santa is the most important week of the year for many, some even spend the entire year preparing for the processions, costumes, and floats. Cuenca's Easter celebration and Toledo's Corpus Christi draw people from all over Spain. During the pre-Lenten carnival, León and nearby La Bañeza are popular party centers. Expect crowds and book accommodations months in advance if going during these times.
