Fodor's Review

On the western edge of town, a 1½-km (1-mile) walk from the center—this convent, founded in 1187 by King Alfonso VIII, is still run by nuns. It has a royal mausoleum, though all but one of the royal coffins were desecrated by Napoléon's soldiers. The one that survived contained clothing that forms the basis of the convent's textile museum. Admission includes a guided tour of the monastery, but you can browse the museum at your own pace.
