El Candil Viejo

El Candil Viejo Review

Beloved by locals for its superb, no-nonsense Castilian fare, this tavern is an old favorite with professors in pinstripes and students on dates. Aside from a simple salad, the menu consists of meat, meat, and more meat, including pork, lamb, kid, sausage, and fantastic marucha (short ribs). The homemade pork sausages are especially good. For tapas, try the farinato sausage, made from pork, onion, eggs, and bread crumbs, or the picadillo, similar but spicier with pepper, garlic, and tomato.
