Mesón del Rastro

Mesón del Rastro Review

In the former stables of the medieval Palacio de los Dávila Abrantes, this restaurant has a bucolic rustic Castilian interior with exposed stone walls and beams, low lighting, and dark wood furniture, perfectly setting the tone for the traditional dishes. Try the lamb or the tostón asado (roast suckling pig), or any dish made with the famous beans from El Barco de Ávila. Equally hearty and filled with flavor is the stick-to-your-ribs caldereta de cabrito (goat stew). The place has one dining room for 145 and occasionally suffers somewhat from its popularity with tour buses, making service sometimes slow and impersonal. Try for the smaller dining room for 30.
