This mighty 12th-century fortress has hosted royalty for centuries, from Ferdinand and Isabella right up to Spain's present king, Juan Carlos I. Some rooms have four-poster beds and balconies overlooking the wild landscape. The excellent dining room ($$$-$$$$) makes for a leisurely lunch, an essential part of the experience here; your choices might include roast goat, pheasant, or cod with truffles and cheese.
