Surrounding Zamora's cathedral to the north is a sizable park incorporating the heavily restored castle, begun in the 11th century. Now a municipal school, it's open to visitors only when classes are in session. Calle Trascastillo, descending south from the cathedral to the river, allows for views of the fertile countryside to the south and the town's old Roman bridge.
