Fodor's Spain 2014
Artesanía Duende Review
If you have a car, skip the souvenir shops in Salamanca's center and instead head 35 km (22 miles) through the countryside along the rural SA-300 road to Artesanía Duende, a wooden crafts workshop run by a charming husband-and-wife team. At their home factory, you can see their handicrafts being made. Their music boxes, thimbles, photo frames, and other items are beautifully carved or stenciled with local themes, from the bailes charros, Salamanca's regional dance, to the floral designs embroidered on the hems of provincial dresses. Open only on Fridays and weekends. It's best to call ahead to schedule a free, personal tour.
