Fuerteventura's capital, Puerto del Rosario, has suffered from an image problem for a long time. It used to be called Puerto de Cabra (Goat Port), but the new and improved name (Rosary Port) has not changed the fact that this is a town with little of interest to the average traveler. If you arrive by boat here, your best bet is to rent a car (from €20 a day) and spend the day exploring the island’s natural wonders.
If you find yourself in Puerto del Rosario with an hour or two to spare before your boat leaves, stroll round the Parque Escultórico (Park of Sculptures) in the center of town, where there are more than 50 works on display. The tourist office outside the port can provide a map and guide to the 15 most prominent sculptures.
