Fodor's Review

The global glitterati who adopted post-Guggenheim Bilbao favor this spot across the Puente de la Ribera footbridge below the market. Frank Gehry discovered the color "Bilbao blue"—the azure of the skies over (usually rainy) Bilbao—on the walls here and used it for the Guggenheim's office building. Recently renovated and reopened, the new management has maintained the café's iconic blue-tiled walls and floor, and added sleek modern furniture, giving the restaurant a fresh, trendy flare. Echoing the new look is an eclectic menu, from traditional Spanish dishes such as arroz con chipirones (rice with squid), bacalao, (cod), and salmorejo (cold tomato soup), to Asian delicacies like gyoza and Indian pakora.
