Lodging Strategy

Scan the "Best Bets" chart for top recommendations by price and experience. Or find a review quickly in the listings. Search by neighborhood, then alphabetically.

Reservations

Because of the annual summer onslaught of millions of tourists, you'll want to reserve well in advance from early April to late October. Note that high-season rates prevail also during the week before Easter and local fiestas.

Facilities

Hotel entrances are marked with a plaque bearing the letter H and the number of stars. The letter R (standing for residencia) after the letter H indicates an establishment with no meal service. The designations fonda (F), pensión (P), hostal (Hs), and casa de huéspedes (CH) indicate budget accommodations.

Hotel ratings used by the Turisme de Barcelona are based on stars, with five stars as the highest rating. Two stars and above are dependable ratings, while one-star ratings should be considered budget options with a high likelihood of flaws. You should specify when reserving whether you prefer two beds or one double bed. Although single rooms (habitación sencilla) are usually available, they are often on the small side, and you might prefer to pay a bit extra for single occupancy in a double room (habitación doble uso individual).
