Hotel Grums Review

Tucked off on a side street in Poble Sec, on the far side of El Raval, this recently opened small hotel lies within easy walking distance to the port and La Rambla—an especially convenient bivouac for cruise ship visitors. Rooms are long, slightly narrow rectangles, with decor in basic black-and-white and hardwood floors. Each room has its own theme—the Mediterranean, the Palau de la Música Catalana, Sagrada Família, and so on—with brief explanations in Catalan, Spanish, and English. Room 601 is the best in the house, with a huge terrace overlooking interior gardens and patios. The spa (with a huge jacuzzi and sauna), the breakfast room and restaurant, are all equally functional and cheery. Staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the neighborhood—which can seem iffy at first glance but is quite safe.

    Hotel Grums Review

Our stay at the Grums was a happy surprise from start to finish. The hotel is in an interesting and unusual location, across the Raval in Poble Sec, which has some wonderful restaurants. The hotel staff was cheerful and helpful, the rooms are tastefully designed and decorated, and the breakfast was delicious. The walk over to the Rambla del Raval the next morning was a ten-minute stroll past the lovely pre-Romanesque Sant Pau del Camp church, Barcelona's earliest Christian church. The Raval, often described as sketchy, was cosmopolitan and a little wild and woolly, but never dangerous. We would stay at the Hotel Grums again happily.
