Fodor's Review

A few steps up Carrer Tallers from the top of La Rambla, just around the corner from the MACBA and El Raval, this little budget hotel is well positioned for exploring medieval Barcelona and the Eixample. Rooms have an old-fashioned charm, with rustic and art deco touches, painted headboards, antique furniture, and chandeliers. Avoid rooms at the front, facing a noisy street.

Windowless Single - Seedy Area

If I had been told on booking that the single room had no window, I would have gone elsewhere. There were some charming areas of the hotel, but my room was not one of them. The buffet breakfast was average, but at least it was included. Although very centrally located, the hotel is approached through some seedy deserted streets that are nervous-making at night. Also the woman at the front desk was totally paranoid about crime and kept handing

people lists of obvious safety tips. She meant well, and perhaps she had good reasons for doing this. I wouldn't recommend or not recommend this hotel. I wouldn't stay again, but the double rooms are probably much nicer. It was not as nice as it looks on the website.

Quite the charmer

I stayed at this hotel for two nights in June 2003, and I thought it was very charming. The breakfast room was large and elegant, as was the lobby. The room was air-conditioned, with large windows looking onto the street. It was clean and antique-y looking. I would definitely stay here again.

Tiny Rooms, but a Bargain Nevertheless

I stayed at Meson Castilla two summers ago for a week before moving to the big/fancy convention hotel where my meeting was booked. Frankly, the Meson Castilla was a lot more friendly and fun! My room was tiny, but immaculate. The location was perfect for sight-seeing and the price cannot be beat.

Gross...

This hotel was not what we expected. When we arrived we were told we had no reservation, then (all of the sudden) we had a reservation again but for double what we were quoted. We had conformation numbers and the price they quoted on a print out of an email and were told that it was "wrong". We had to sleep in a room with 2 twin beds (booked double beds) and the sheets and blankets were gross and dirty. Would not stay here again even if it was free.
