$$-$$$, Raval
Fodor's Review:
The Apolo is a massive modern business hotel -- rooms are impeccable, but impersonal -- in the middle of the traditional cabaret and theater district, not far from Drassanes, the Columbus monument at the end of the Rambla, and the port. The location is handy for Montjuïc and the Fira de Barcelona; however, the 15-minute walk over to the Rambla and the Gothic Quarter takes you through the heart of the Raval's notorious Barrio Chino, one of Barcelona's most rough-and-tumble neighborhoods. A 10-minute walk down Carrer Nou de la Rambla is your best route across to the Rambla, but the metro will safely whip you around from the Paral.lel to the Liceu stop in three minutes. Pros: central location for the Raval, high-tech, large and lively. Cons: noisy thoroughfare at the door, high-rise and impersonal building.
