Asian cuisine expert Ana Saura's much respected restaurant just behind L'Illa Diagonal shopping emporium is widely regarded as offering the best Japanese food in Barcelona. Chef Maestro Tan prepares sushi and sashimi of impeccable quality and purity, often working only three feet away from diners at the polished oak bar, with the best views into the glass-walled kitchen. Cockles steamed in sake, miso soup, prawns in tempura, or sauteed yakisoba noodles with vegetables are excellent starters. Steak tartare made with Wagyu Kobe beef is a specialty of the house, as are the tuna tartare with cream of tofu and wasabi and the scallop tartare.
