Casa Leopoldo
Casa Leopoldo Review
Hidden in a dark Raval pocket west of the Rambla, this restaurant owned by the Gil family serves fine seafood and Catalan fare. To get here, approach along Carrer Hospital, take a left through the Passatge Bernardí Martorell, and go 50 feet right on Sant Rafael to the Gil front door. Try the revuelto de ajos tiernos y gambas (eggs scrambled with young garlic and shrimp) or the famous cap-i-pota (stewed head and hoof of pork). Albariños and Priorats are among Rosa Gil's favorite wines.

We travelled around Spain for the past 3 weeks, eating everything from Tapas to high end restaurants. Everything has been amazing. My wife and I wanted to go out for one last nice evening in Barcelona. According to Fodor's Spain 2010 book, Casa Leopoldo got their Gold star recommendation.
We walk in at about 10:00 pm on a thursday night and no one is in the first part of the restaurant, except for the lady that owns it. We get seated on the orther side where there are 2 groups and another couple, so we feel better that some locals are eating there. We order some cocktaials while we look at the menu. My wife had a tinto verrano and I had a Rum and Cola. We order a starter and our mains, and I order a glass of Red wine to be served with my meal. Starter comes, verrrry small portion, but ok.
I had ordered the King Crab, so they brought shell cutters & crackers. When they brought it, it was 2 legs of the crab already cut in half! Was tasteless and mushy, ate in 1 bite portions per half shell, and what the HECK did I need the crackers for!!?? Wifes Hake and Agler fish was actulaay very good.
NEVER did get my wine!
They brought desert menus, I didn't look at it, wife ordered Creme Brule and I just orfered a beer to get something they couldn't screw up......or so I thought! Her desert came and it was good, she finished it as we discussed if they forgot about my beer too!! Not that they were overly busy with 2 8 tops and 2 couples. FINALLY she came with a beer apologizing that she forgot about it. We said "No Thank you. La cuenta, por favor."
Cheque comes and at least they didn't charge us for the wine or the beer. But it seems a little high. They charged us 13.80 Euros (About $20) for a Rum and Coke!!1 I call her over and said that I think she made a mistake. She says, "Sorry sir, but I don't make the prices." !!! What!!??
I say, "NO one makes a price like that!!"
Sha again says sorry, that's the price!! LOL. I pull out my wallet and say to my wife, "Lets get out of here this is ridiculous." She says, "one moment." Takes the cheque and comes back with the drink taken off. Pay it and leave EXTREMELY dissapointed in the restaurant. The one and ONLY bad dining experience in 21 days!!!
