Café de l'Acadèmia

Updated 03/12/2014

Fodor's Review

With wicker chairs, stone walls, and classical music playing, this place is sophisticated-rustic, and the excellent contemporary Mediterranean cuisine specialties such as timbal d'escalibada amb formatge de cabra (roast vegetable salad with goat cheese) or crema de pastanaga amb gambes i virutes de parmesá (cream of carrot soup with shrimp and Parmesan cheese shavings) make it more than a mere café. Politicians and functionaries from the nearby Generalitat

frequent this dining room, which is always boiling with life. Be sure to reserve at lunchtime.

Café de l'Acadèmia Review

Friendly waitstaff, excellent food and a fun atmosphere. We had small bowls of two soups to start, including an excellent gazpacho, very good grilled crayfish and seafood pasta and a very good tarte tatin

Don't go!

I've been several times because the food is great value & not at all a tourist trap despite the location. However the last time, despite booking several days in advance and calling in an hour before to confirm, they had no table for us. Then they kept promising a table for 90 minutes. If it wasn't raining and every where packed we would have left. What was really annoying was when tables for 4 became availabe they refused to let us have one - just

2 of us - so they could cram in the maximum numbers. During all this they never apologised, never offered us a drink, they just didn't care.... don't bother....

Best Restaurant in Barca

Cafe' was the best restaurant in a city filled w/ wonderful restaurants. The food was out of this world. Try the guinea fowl or the eggplant appetizer. The entire meal was delightful.
