Fodor's Review:

Perched over the traffic-free and charming Plaça del Pi and Plaça Sant Josep Oriol, this budget hotel has some rooms with views of the Gothic church of Santa Maria del Pi; all have pine furniture and small bathrooms. The in-house breakfast is excellent, and the alfresco tables at the Bar del Pi, downstairs, are ideal in summer. There are five floors and an elevator, but this is not the Ritz—it's still a great value, though. Pros: Central location, good value, impeccable (but small) bathrooms. Cons: Lightweight beds and furnishings, no amenities, the square can get noisy in summer.

Arrived in Barcelona on 11/08/08 for a 2 night stay prior to embarking on a cruise ship for the states. Had read the reviews and had booked this in April. And as the reviews had stated , asked for the Large rooms on the 8th floor with the patios overlooking the square..The sights and sounds of the square was fantastic..from the songs of children to the sounds of strolling guitar"s.....the square was filled with artists and their works along with vendors of Cheese and wines...a classic view of the Gothic church under renovation and lighted at night along with the vendors tables below...what better way to end a hectic day of sightseeing than to rest on the patio with a cigar and cognac listening to the sounds below...The Hotel staff obtain reservations for me at a Flamenco dinner show..center stage 1st table..(that was 11/08)..They also got me tickets to a Concert by Classical Master of the Spanish Guitar, Manuel Gonzales given on 11/09 at the church in the square..again seated 1st pew, 1st seat center aisle...The staff made my short 2 day stay ....a very special stay....I now look forward to returning for a week or 2....The room was nice and the morning breakfast was very great. The free wifi in the breakfast room a bonus..the hotel is a block off the Ramblas ..what more could you ask for??...just 2 con's...you need to walk 1 block from the Ramblas to get to the Hotel as only 1 cab company has the permit to drive into the square...and you will need to carry your bags up 1 flight of stairs to the reception desk ...other than that enjoy Barcelona...
