Neighborhoods / Streets, Born-Ribera
Fodor's Review:
This little pedestrian-only alleyway paralleling Carrer Montcada just gets better and better. Exploring Banys Vells is a delight, from the beautifully appointed and supplied Teresa Ferri restaurant El Pebre Blau all the way down the street past shops and the stone-vaulted Va de Vi (which means, in Catalan, "It's about wine") wine-tasting tavern to the Tarannà design and bric-a-brac shop on the corner at No. 4 Carrer Barra de Ferro. Banys Vells means "old baths," referring to the site of the early public baths. Later baths were on the street Banys Nous (New Baths) in the Gothic Quarter near the cathedral. While you're in the neighborhood, grab a beer and pick up your e-mail at the Internet Gallery Café at No. 3 Barra de Ferro; have a look at the medieval-vintage La Cua Corta restaurant (where you can roast your filet mignon at your table) on Carrer de la Carassa; and have a single-malt or a beer from Scotland at the Clansmen opposite Carrer Mirallers on Barra de Ferro.
