Casa Fuster
At a Glance
- well placed for exploring Gracia as well as the Eixample, equidistant from the port and upper Barcelona's Tibidabo
Pros
- the design can feel a little heavy and loud
- some in-room facilities look better than they work (such as the showers that require you to spray cold water on yourself to turn on)

Casa Fuster Review
Casa Fuster is one of two chances (the other is the Hotel España) to stay in an Art Nouveau building designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner, architect of the retina-rattling Palau de la Musica Catalana. His last project, built in 1911 at the bottom of the village of Gracia, shows a tendency toward the more classical Noucentisme that followed the decorative delirium of the Moderniste movement. The rooms and public spaces reinforce the Moderniste theme with Gaudi-designed chairs, trencadis (colorful broken tile) floors and door handles, and Art Nouveau-inspired lamps and fixtures. In the lobby, undulating lavender sofas echo the arched windows. Rooms are similarly unrestrained, with striped linens and cobalt-blue chairs. The hotel restaurant serves fine Mediterranean cuisine, while the sumptuously decorated Cafe Vienes was a historic meeting place for Barcelona's movers and shakers of the early 20th century.
