Why We Like It

There isn’t a ton here in terms of frills and amenities, but what the hotel does, it does well. And what those things are is friendly service, a great rooftop pool and bar, and a location that gives you easy access to most of the city. While jazz themes are relatively non-existent, the hotel does offer some live music on Sunday mornings (all year) and Saturday nights (summer only). Ultimately, you stay here for the low price point and the central locale – the jazz you’ll need to figure out on your own.

Fodor's Expert Review

Despite its musical name, there’s not a whole lot about this hotel to remind you of America’s purest original art form. But what this boutique does offer is an ideal location, clean and tasteful design, and a fun summer bar scene on their stellar rooftop terrace.

Tip Partnering with its two sister hotels, the Hotel Jazz offers a free walking tour of the Gothic Quarter every Wednesday. It’s a great way to learn about this historic region of Barcelona.

Room

Huge, mounted TVs take up most of the space which is also decked out with nice hardwood floors. All rooms have small balconies and come with a tea kettle for your morning caffeine needs. Some rooms are great for families as they feature a separate living room area with a large fold-out couch.

Bathroom

Black tile floors and walls give way to raised sinks and shower/bathtub combinations. Bidets are standard and if you’re in the family rooms, the shower and bathtubs are separated.

Lobby

The minimalist lobby has black marble floors, and small wooden banquettes with gray leather cushions. In the back you’ll find a business center with a couple of computers in case you need to print your boarding pass. It’s not much of a hangout space, however.

Pool

The year-round pool is the heart of the hotel as the 8th floor terrace offers endless views of the city. You won’t be swimming any laps in the medium-sized watering spot, but the black mesh loungers are great for late day sun-bathing.

Gym

There’s no gym but they have an agreement with a spot nearby that’s free for guests.

Dining

Food options are rather limited, but there is a breakfast area with a decent buffet. On the roof at the pool, you can order tapas from 11 am-11 pm or till midnight in the summer.

Tip On Sundays in the breakfast area, you’ll be treated to live music – often jazz, but not always.

Drinking

Dubbed Cub, the rooftop terrace is a loungy hangout in the summer with jazz and other live music on Saturday nights. In the winter, the drinking scene turns to the first-floor bar where expert mixologists whip up original cocktails.

Tip The hotel offers a cocktail master class on Tuesdays where you can learn to shake and stir like a pro.

One of the best perks about this hotel is its incredibly convenient location. Literally a block away is the Universitat metro station and only 2-minutes away is Plaça de Catalunya where you can catch other metro lines for the rest of the city. South of the hotel is the Gothic Quarter where you’ll find some of the best attractions and within minutes are excellent restaurants and bars as well.

Restaurants

If you’re jamon’d out, you might like one of the best vegetarian/vegan/flexitarian joints in town just south of the hotel. Check out Flax & Kale (2-minute walk) for all your green-needs. Also a short walk away is La Boqueria (9-minute walk), a stellar outdoor market with endless food stalls and surrounding restaurants for every type of cuisine imaginable.

Bars

Cocktail connoisseurs should check out Two Schmucks (5-minute walk) a small and laid-back haunt with expert drink makers. In the opposite direction is Obama English Pub (5-minute walk), a sports bar with live music that pays homage to the former US president.
